Let's talk about Texas. The state that in most folks minds conjures images of big oil, capital punishment, sun baked necks, rattlesnakes, stars on cars and men with no eyes has always had another darker weirder side to it. Where people talk loudly and carry big sticks there's always something brewing in the basement. The musical culture of Austin and the Great State of Texas is littered with acid burnt dropouts and guitar slinging provocateurs (I hear Billy Gibbons STILL carries a pistol in his boot). Here's a highly edited musical history... The Golden Dawn singing of "Starvation", Red Krayola's "Transparent Radiation", Roky Ericson's vampires aliens fire engines and Easter Everywhere, Scratch Acid, Gibby Haynes as a Human Cannonball, Tim Kerr's many incarnations and blues reinventions, and it goes on and on.
Austin's The Strange Boys are a direct part of the lineage of the Texas psych rock dirt road. Ramshackle and occasionally dark damaged blues and rock and roll with lysergic dripped strained and broken vocals. Great songs, clever lyrics, and a dynamite live show puts these guys in a league above a lot of their garage rock contemporaries. If you know them already you KNOW this is a show not to miss, if you don't... Well come on down and get educated. Because we are proud to have Austin TX's finest from the In The Red label, The Strange Boys, live at Third Man Records on Saturday July 9th. Per our standard practice, the show will be recorded direct to analog tape and will be made available as a live album as part of our Live At Third Man Series. Black & Blue split colored editions of the album will be available for pre-order only to those in attendance.
We're also very excited to say that opening the show will be Nashville's own three piece tower of power, Natural Child. This will be their first time playing at TMR and we couldn't be happier to have them. On the DJ front we'll have our friends from Nashville's Dead and The Paperhead spinning heavy psych boogie all night.
It's summer, it's a Saturday night, it's only $5 and two of the finest bands working in rock and roll today will be gracing the Third Man stage. Where else are you gonna be? Get your tickets HERE.
