Mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile and guitarist Michael Daves first met and collaborated at a Wednesday night bluegrass jam at the Baggot Inn in New York City while Thile was visiting. The pair hit it off and continued playing songs together hours after the jam had ended. Two years later when Thile’s band, Nickel Creek, went on an indefinite hiatus Thile formed The Punch Brothers and was living in New York full time. Thile and Daves started attending the same bluegrass jam where they originally met and continued playing together every week. Thile and Daves set out to make a record together and called on Jack White to produce. The pair travelled to Nashville and recorded Man in the Middle at Third Man Studios for the “Blue Series”. The 7” features Jack White on drums and Carl Broemel on pedal steel along with Thile and Daves. Man in the Middle is available in the Third Man Records Store now.
