What happens when you pluck several musicians from individually successful rock 'n' roll bands and throw them in a studio together? Chaos is to be expected, but none could predict the wild success a bonafide band of indie rockers called Divine Fits had--the dream collaboration almost too good to be true. Comprised of Spoon frontman Britt Daniel, Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs' Dan Boeckner, New Bomb Turks' Sam Brown and Alex Fischler, this supergroup, for lack of a better word, has been on our radar since the day of their inception. We were finally able to rope them in to recording a live show with us one balmy summer following the release of their debut album.
Taking what they've learned from their respective bands, Daniel and Boeckner are a match made in heaven playing off the other's strengths as musicians. Their praised debut, A Thing Called Divine Fits, was a perfect marriage of Spoon's soulful pop deconstructions and Wolf Parade's indie rock anthems. For their direct-to-tape album, the guys even threw in some surprise covers including Frank Ocean's "Lost" and Rowland S. Howard's "Shivers." They topped off their rowdy set by inviting a fan onstage to smash open a piñata bringing a shower of Snickers and Twix galore to the crowd's delight. Relive the magic thing called Divine Fits with your own copy of the live album recorded in our Blue Room.
