King Tuff is the alter ego of musician Kyle Thomas. Thomas started playing as King Tuff when he self released an album on a self-made CD-R in 2006 in between playing with folk revival band Feathers and stoner metal band Witch. King Tuff’s official full-length debut, Was Dead, was released in 2008. Original pressings of Was Dead are now considered collectible because so few were printed. Thomas took a break to tour with other bands and record an album with his power pop band, Happy Birthday, before recording another King Tuff single in 2011. A year later he released his self-titled LP, which introduced more retro-pop hooks to the garage rock sound he established on the first record. King Tuff charted at No. 21 on the Billboard Heatseeker Albums chart and eventually climbed to No. 2 on the CMJ chart. Third Man Records recorded King Tuff’s “Rock N Roll Lunch at Third Man” performance on Friday, July 13th, 2012 for the Live at Third Man Records series.
